As a jewellery business, we dread the month of November. Sales somewhat take a nosedive. There are very few to no weddings in November. It is said to be a sacred month. Nothing that is of the spirits or ancestors is done in this month. Any cultural rituals carried out during this time are deemed null and void. My knowledge on the subject matter is very limited but I definitely note a trend with sales. Click here for insights from those a little more knowledgeable on the subject matter.
Uniquely Zimbabwean
The younger generations are more open to November weddings but once the elders get involved all such plans come to a staggering halt. Even a lot of people who hold strict Christian values still do not attempt to tempt fate with a wedding during this sacred month, although in recent years the number of November weddings is steadily rising. This phenomenon is unique to Zimbabwe and so peculiar that even the BBC reported on it.
November Shopping
We have seen the belief extend to even the purchase of wedding rings in the month of November. Couples hold off on buying wedding rings in this month for fear of bringing the wrath of the gods upon their marriages. Is it also a taboo to plan and organize for events to be held later? Like i said; i still have much to learn on this cultural phenomenon.
