If I am to be honest, when I started work at Aurex, I was not a jewellery person. I lacked an appreciation for it. Maybe once in a blue moon I would wear studs, that I got as part of my graduation gift from my sister. A voice at the back of my head always told me that buying jewellery like chains, bracelets, anklets etc was just a waste of money. However, I did not mind spending money on clothes, handbags, and shoes. In that department, I was a shopaholic. I spent unapologetically.
The Gift that Started It All
This one time, a good friend of mine called me and asked for assistance in choosing a chain and a pendant for her cousin. Unlike me, she is crazy about jewellery. She has a collection of bracelets, chains, studs and anklets and they are all genuine metals from Aurex. Her collection of jewellery is to die for. I picked a 9k chain SG024RG and P0000320 pendant and l sent her pictures. The pendant had a clear stone so that it matches with any clothing, and it added a bit of sophistication to the chain. She loved the set and said she would come to pay for it later in the day.
A few minutes before our closing time, she came to the Eastgate market shop to make the payment. I packed the set nicely in a box and handed it to her. Instead of taking the gift, she looked me and said, “It is for you my friend, a girl has got to accessorize”. I was shocked and happy at the same time, like “who would buy me a genuine 9k gold chain and pendant, just because…?” It was not even a special day for me.
The Girl…..Now Accessorizing
Since I was excited about the gift, (did I mention that I love gifts? LOL, I decided to “accessorize” by wearing my new jewellery the very next day. I wore my black dress with the chain and pendant and I felt different, in a very good way. The jewellery helped compliment my outfit and made it “pop”. It gave me good vibes. I was literally dripping in gold HAHAHA!
I started wearing my chain and pendant almost on daily basis with different outfits and decided to add studs E000055 to my collection. The new purchase made my “feel good hormones” increase. I began to understand why people wear jewellery. It just adds “ka that” to your outfit.
Anniversary
As our 3rd anniversary was approaching, I knew that I was going to get a gift from my boyfriend as per our custom of exchanging gifts on such special occasions. I wanted an infinity ring (RL0767) to symbolize our love and hoop earrings (EF0325A1). I then started giving him hints. LOL, “a girl has got to look good, right?!”
To cut the story short, I got the gift I wanted with a GD040RG chain and a P0000195 pendant as a bonus. It is exquisite! See this picture below:
No Such Thing as “Not a Jewellery Person”
When l look back now l cannot believe that l am that girl who used to say l am not a jewellery person. I now believe that there is no such thing as a person who is “not a jewellery person”. Now l cannot leave my house without a bit of jewellery be it studs, a chain or just a simple bracelet. Jewellery has a way of making a statement wherever you go without looking like you are trying too hard.
I am truly grateful to my friend who gave me a chance to explore and appreciate jewellery more and because of her I “accessorize” and never look back.
